STEPHEN DERRICK —

BOARD MEMBER

Stephen is an accredited UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) psychotherapist and clinical supervisor.

Stephen works in a CAMHS adolescent inpatient unit and adult outpatient service for people with enduring mental health difficulties for the NHS.

He is currently training to be an EMDR therapist working with trauma. Stephen has campaigned on the importance of the mental health and emotional well-being of young people and has over 20 years clinical experience working with families, children and young people.  

Stephen was a professional dancer and Education Officer for Phoenix Dance Theatre (PDT) for 10 years and served on the PDT Board of Trustees for 5 years, supporting the former Artistic Director with overseeing all aspects of the vision of the organisation.

Stephen sees Gateway Studio’s vision as offering the exciting potential of making dance accessible to diverse populations throughout the region and community.

Working alongside fellow board members to develop a vibrant, exciting initiative that would transform young people’s lives amid the challenges facing the nation, is Stephen’s aim; helping Gateway Studio to become the lead dance organisation in Gateshead and the North East - providing educational, community and professional opportunities to engage in dance and cultural creativity.
